Easy directions to find your way around El Dorado

S
ure most of us have a GPS, but understanding
El Dorado's through streets will better help you
find your way around and make getting from
Point A to Point B a little quicker.
Main Street is the dividing line for north and
south. West Avenue is the dividing line for east and west.
These are also two of the most utilized thoroughfares within
the city. Other streets that move a lot of through traffic include;
College Avenue, Hillsboro Street, Mount Holly Road,
Champagnolle Road, Timberlane Drive, and Martin Luther
King Blvd.
All numbered streets run east and west. A good point
of reference is Fifth Street, which has
a four-lane section where you'll find
Memorial Stadium, South Arkansas
Arts Center, Barton Library, and Hugh
Goodwin Elementary. Continuing west
on Fifth Street is a quick access to the
Emergency Room at the Medical Center
of South Arkansas before intersecting
College Avenue.
Nineteenth Street also connects College
Avenue with North West Avenue,
Calion Road, and Champagnolle Road. Along Nineteenth
Street is The Home Depot, the Union County Fairgrounds,
and the Lions Club Municipal Golf Course.
Most of the commercial businesses in El Dorado are
located along North West Avenue. The northern end of West
Avenue intersects highways US 167B and AR 7S. It is
El Dorado's most heavily traveled city street. Along North
West is Wal-Mart, Brookshire's Grocery, Walgreens, Mellor

Park Mall, fast food eateries, sit-down restaurants, car
washes, banks, and nail salons. On the southern end of West
Avenue is the El Dorado Conference Center, South Arkansas
College, and a second Brookshire's Grocery.
Streets with the names of U.S. Presidents run north and
south. Downtown you will find; Cleveland, Jefferson, Jackson,
Madison, and Washington Streets. Other streets in the
downtown area are labeled with species of trees such as Oak,
Elm, Peach, Cedar, and they run east and west.
College Avenue wins the award for most school traffic.
Yocum Elementary and Northwest Elementary are located
along College Avenue, so watch for children during school
hours. El Dorado High School is located
on the south end of Timberlane and traffic
can back up in the mornings around
7:30 - 8:00 a.m. and around 3:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
Highways US 167 and US 82 both offer
four-lane access around the city and are
responsible for moving the through traffic
around the city. Primary exits on US 167
include: Calion Road, Champagnolle,
Main Street, and Hillsboro. Major exits
along US 82 include: Industrial Road (east of El Dorado),
US 167, South Field Road, Wesson Road or Haynesville
Highway, and Hillsboro.
