Jennifer Smith

Place of birth: Anchorage, Alaska
SIU experience: Ten years and counting;
I review and monitor approximately 75% of
total theft claims for COUNTRY Financial.
What people don't know about you:
I come across as outgoing, but I'm actually
reserved.
Favorite book: Anything pertaining to U.S. History, especially
Civil War.
Favorite movie: This is where I lose my credibility. Ha ha!
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is my all-time favorite
movie.
Interesting places you've traveled to: Washington, DC and
Raleigh, North Carolina. I love the history and preservation of
history in those two areas.
What's on your bucket list? Skydive and visit Greece.
What has being a member of IASIU done for you? Being an
IASIU member has given me access to educational webinars,
particularly some that are out of my work scope.
What motivated you to obtain the CIFR? My investigative
skills always need sharpening, which completing the CIFR
definitely did for me.
What benefits do you anticipate because you obtained the
CIFR? I hope to network with other members on how their
company handles total theft claims.

Mark Young

Place of birth: Buffalo, New York
SIU experience: 10+ years with law enforcement
in various positions, including Sergeant, Property
Detective and Crimes against Children Detective; five
years SIU with Infinity Insurance before moving to my
current position as SIU II with Sentry Insurance.
What people don't know about you: I am a former
minor league baseball player and SWAT team operator.
Favorite book: The Bible!
Favorite movie: Tough one; I will go with Anchorman.
Interesting places you've traveled to: I have been to 33 states, Canada,
Mexico and the Bahamas. Surprisingly my favorite place was a little town in
Utah called Moab. Nighttime in Moab is indescribable!
What's on your bucket list? I plan on visiting Greece, Thailand and Fiji
with my family. I would like to dive with a whale shark and a giant manta!
What has being a member of IASIU done for you? Membership in IASIU
allows me to stay current with investigative techniques and industry trends.
It provides an excellent platform for making contacts and networking.
Those contacts have been essential in my day-to-day performance as an
investigator.
What motivated you to obtain the CIFI? I wanted the cool lapel pin...
Seriously though, my employer, Sentry Insurance, is a big proponent of
continuing education and training. We are encouraged to keep moving
forward to better ourselves and our company. CIFI was a natural step to
improving myself both as an investigator and an employee.
What benefits do you anticipate because you obtained the CIFI?
The CIFI designation is widely recognized and respected in the industry.
The credibility that comes with being CIFI certified is invaluable and will
assist me in moving forward on my career path.
