SIU Today President's Message

IASIU 2018 is "in the books" as one of IASIU's most successful
educational events in our history. From our survey after the seminar,
the sessions were well attended and beneficial, and attendees had
ample time to network and meet new insurance fraud investigators
and others that are part of our profession. Frank Abagnale's keynote
presentation, sponsored by LexisNexis, was another highlight of
the conference. The number of attendees was an indication of the
value of IASIU's membership. Several companies brought their
entire SIU to the conference and used the sessions like an academy
to provide training to their staff. Overall, an excellent event and
one that attendees will remember for years to come. Next year's
seminar is in Phoenix, Arizona at the Arizona Grand. IASIU chose
this location because of the proximity of our membership and the
facilities that enable a world-class event. Plan to be part of IASIU's
35th anniversary celebration at IASIU 2019, September 8-11.
In addition to the sessions at IASIU 2018, investigators took advantage
of the CIFI prep course and sat for the CIFI and CIFA exams.
These certifications, along with the CIFR (Certified Insurance
Fraud Representative), bring professional designations to insurance
fraud fighters and show the commitment to our profession. IASIU
offered complimentary registrations to all IASIU chapter presidents
this year, and many took advantage of the opportunity. Chapter
presidents met and exchanged ideas to strengthen our chapters,
the grassroots of IASIU. If you're not involved in a local chapter,
join one or more and find out how you can benefit from regional
education and networking events. IASIU's sponsors and exhibitors
contribute to our association through financially backing our events
and providing our members and their companies with a glimpse
of the technology and services they provide. The financial backing

keeps our dues and prices to events low. I've asked our sponsors
to use their time with attendees as training opportunities and not
sales events. Sponsors and exhibitors give IASIU members the
opportunity to see new advances that are coming to our industry.
In this edition, you'll see articles on medical fraud schemes, rate
evasion, and internet jewelry purchases. The Annual Snapshot,
SIU Buyer's Guide, member spotlights and chapter news are also
included. You receive credit for your certifications just for reading
the publication and taking a short quiz. Take time to look over
the award winners of this year's prestigious IASIU awards. These
individuals contributed to their profession, the insurance fraud
industry, and their SIU's. Start thinking about nominations for
the 2019 awards.
I'm honored to be a member of IASIU and work with our Board of
Directors, Advisors and 4,000 plus insurance fraud investigators
from 27 countries. With 43 chapters, after the Board recently voted
to approve IASIU Mississippi, IASIU is the largest association of
insurance fraud investigators in the world.
