About the Author
Zhongyi John Ding, PhD received his BS in 1984 from East China University of Science and Technology and his PhD in
1995 from the University of Tulsa, both in chemical engineering. He has worked mainly in research and development
for organizations such as Sinopec (China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation) and Los Alamos National Laboratory
before embarking on an industrial career as a Senior Engineer at Solutia and ExxonMobil Chemical. Upon joining
GTC, Zhongyi has led teams in the development of technologies such as glycerin to propylene glycol, toluene
methylation with methanol, and mixed xylene separation. Currently he and his team are developing a catalytic
process to convert natural gas into petrochemical building blocks through a non-syngas route. He is inventor/coinventor of thirteen US Patents, has authored numerous journal articles and technical presentations, and can be
