n my time as a newspaper reporter, I would occasionally
receive a thank-you note for a story I had written. I kept
those notes in a stack on my desk as a reminder for those
days when I ielded more complaints than kudos.
That was before the advent of social media. I'm not
sure I would have survived long in the newspaper biz
in this era when insults and grievances are ired off so
easily. Social media can be fun, but more often it seems
deceptive, crude and downright mean.
Yet, I've found that the annual InTents Buyer's Guide
cover contest-where followers vote on Facebook-
brings out the best in people. So many customers of the
inalists post the most heartfelt comments about the
companies that make their events lawless. Here are just
a few of the many of comments posted for the winning
cover from Ideal Wedding & Events of Sioux Falls, S.D.
"Hands down, THE BEST tent company and crew
around. You want your event done right and uniquely
you? Call Ideal Wedding & Events."
"I love this tent so much that I will be using it at
my wedding."
"Simple and clean design! Would love to shoot all my
outdoor weddings with a tent like this."
With that, I would like to extend my own heartfelt
thank you to Ideal and the other inalists-Greenwich
Tent Co. of Bridgeport, Conn. (see page 51), and
Moreton Hire of Brisbane, Australia (see page 19)-
plus all of the companies that submitted photos and
everyone who voted.
It's easy to do our best at InTents when we have your
best to show off. We hope you use this Buyer's Guide to
ind the best tents, fabric, decor, equipment and services
to do your best-and in the process, convince your
customers that your tent and event rental business is
the best company and crew around.
