on course One of the high flyers reports! Swiss Re managed to gather nineteen skilled individuals with varying degrees of experience in aviation business for a course. A solid round of participants interested in claims Pawel Sabala, Poland | The lectures covered various topics, some scheduled and some which came up more spontaneously. Looking at current examples – combined with the lecturers’ strong backgrounds – allowed us to touch new aspects. Discussion and sharing knowledge were easy, even after the hours officially designated for studies! The exercises challenged us and enhanced our experience further. It was a fine opportunity to share our knowledge, learn from the more experienced specialists and fully utilise in practice what we had learnt. Simulations, exercises and a “handson” approach to damaged aviation devices helped us to understand the risk more clearly. Further, the fantastic group of curious participants and several beautiful restaurants in Zurich and Lucerne all gave a special flavour to our seminar. The course was more than the place to study. It was a chance to encounter other people, cultures and traditions. Additionally, we all shared living space in Polyglot and soon discovered how much we had in common! Being a quite vocal group, we all found interesting subjects and issues to discuss once the opportunity presented itself. The group visit to the Pilatus Aviation factory, a five-hour tour of production details, assembly lines and the final aircraft product, gave us insight into the “real” process of aircraft manufacture. We shall maintain this network of professionals and friends – where each of us is unique but we all act in the same arena – aviation business. It was an honour to meet such fine participants and lecturers! A room with a view Seventeen participants covered claims management issues in Zurich last autumn spanning most business lines. Alexander Brewster reports. Alexander Brewster, United Kingdom | I attended the Claims management course 30 October – 3 November 2006 and found the experience a very good one. We covered claims management issues on most lines of business and looked at identifying fraudulent claims, reserving mechanisms and legal processes. The standard of the course exceeded my expectations and the material proved useful to my role back in London. The course environment made it easy to meet people in similar positions from all around the world. I met some great people both on a professional and social level and was encouraged to exchange contacts and keep in touch once back home. Besides the course itself, Zurich is a beautiful city and well worth the visit. The view from Swiss Re headquarters, across the crystalclear lake of Zurich to the snow-capped mountain range, is one of the most beautiful views I have seen in a long time! All things considered, it was a productive week, both from an educational point of view and for the personal rewards. I would definitely recommend these courses, and I am convinced that the change from SITC to Swiss Re Academy can only improve the courses and resources.
