Canada's largest city proves its culinary chops biannually, serving mouth-watering meals at
more than 200 restaurants in a celebration of food and drink.

THE FUN
Across Toronto, dining rooms humble and sublime showcase their best food and drink
pairings at Winterlicious. More than 200 restaurants participate by creating prix fixe menus,
a format that encourages chefs to work their magic in a single seating and that offers patrons
the opportunity to sample some of the city's best food at a single affordable price.
In previous years, Winterlicious has included festival menus prepared at restaurants Canoe (considered one of
Canada's top 10), Bymark (led by celebrity Chef Mark McEwan), Lee and Luckee (both under the guidance of
celebrity Chef Susur Lee), Biff's Bistro and Luma. The exact list will be unveiled in December on the festival website.

INSIDER TIP
Winterlicious culinary event tickets go on sale in mid-December while restaurant reservations open two weeks
before the festival opening. Visit the Winterlicious website to book early. If time gets away from you, search on the
website's "Today's Reservations" tab to see which restaurants have immediate openings.

The granddaddy of all winter festivals, the 17-day Carnaval de Québec celebrates the season
with events traditional to extreme, from tranquil sleigh rides to bone-chilling snow bathing.

THE FUN
Québec's version of Mardi Gras began in 1894 as a combination pre-Lenten festival and a means of adding
excitement to a long winter season. But the city's modern celebration was unveiled in 1955 along with an evergrowing list of snowy activities. Expect night parades and sleigh races; snow sculpture competitions and canoe
races across the icy St. Lawrence River; fireworks displays and the snow bath, where you'll need to plunge not once
but three times in your bathing suit. In spite of some of the Winter Carnival's extreme activities, there are plenty of
tamer means of celebrating the season. Families enjoy an outdoor playground on the Plains of Abraham, an outdoor cinema and illuminated snow sledding under the stars. Have a go at dogsledding or skate hand-in-hand with
your special someone at the carnival ice rink.
After hours, attend Québec's outdoor dance parties dressed in your snowsuit or sip local cider and cocktails at
local ice bars. And throughout all of the festivities, you'll be surrounded by the chapels, city ramparts, stone houses
and cobbled streets that have graced Québec since the 17th and 18th centuries.

Québec's Winter Carnival is hugely popular. Consider booking rooms outside of the Old City and taking public
transport to the festival for the day.
