The Jorvik Viking Centre offers visitors archaeologically accurate reconstructions of part of the Viking city of York, including (below) this scene dating to the mid-tenth century. The Centre, which opened in April 1984, consists of an underground tour of the reconstructed excavations , a wharf' active Viking street and market , and an Artefact Hall where the finds from Coppergate are housed (see plan, far right).
