One Ford GT per day
rolls off Markham line
MARKHAM, Ont. - The
2017 Ford GT supercar
is rolling off the line at
Multimatic Inc., northeast
of Toronto, at the rate of
one per day (five per week).

2016, we had two primary objectives for our Ford
GT supercar: to excel at Le
Mans, and to start deliveries before year-end," Raj
Nair, head of Ford's product development, said in a
statement. "We've achieved
both."
Ford limited production to 250 cars a year, and
received more than 6,000
applications for the first
500. It announced later in
2016 it would extend production an additional two
years, through the 2020
model year.
In Canada, the GTs will
be priced starting around
$600,000.
The vehicle was developed in a secret basement
design studio by a small
team and was unveiled at
the 2015 Detroit auto show.
The racing version, which

is very similar to the street
versions customers can
buy, won the 2016 24 Hours
of Le Mans race in France
on the 50th anniversary of
Ford's first victory there
over rivals Porsche and
Ferrari.

Ballard supplies
fuel-cell modules
BURNABY, B.C. - Ballard
Power Systems has
announced a long-term deal
with Solaris Bus and Coach
of Poznan, Poland, to supply fuel-cell modules for
buses to be used in Europe.
The initial order is for
10 85-kilowatt FCveloCityHD modules, with deliveries starting in 2017, Ballard
said in a release.
The unit will be
deployed as a range extender in Solaris Trollino model
low-floor trolley buses to
be used in Riga, Latvia; the
fuel-cell modules will allow
them to operate on routes
that have no overhead wiring. - ANC

Ontario lifts EV cap
of 30 per cent
vehicle value
CONTINUED FROM PA GE 3

million over three years to encourage buyers to switch to EVs under its
Clean Energy Vehicle (CEV) Program.
That same week, BC SCRAP-IT, a
program to take older vehicles off the
road - funded by oil company contributions and administered via new car
dealerships - doubled the incentive
for new EVs to $6,000. The incentive to
buy a used EV remains at $3,000.
Ontario effectively increased incentives to a maximum $14,000 for eligible EV and plug-in hybrid EVs as of
Jan. 1 by lifting the cap based on 30
per cent of the vehicle's retail price.
The fresh funding for the B.C. program does not include increases in
buyer incentives, which remain at
$5,000 for a battery EV and $6,000 for a
hydrogen fuel-cell model.
When combined with the SCRAPIT incentive, a new-EV buyer could
receive up to $11,000 ($12,000 for an
FCEV). The cash injection was timely because less than $1.4 million
remained available from the existing
pot of money.
Some of the $40 million will also
fund other programs: Expanding residential and workplace charging and
hydrogen-fueling infrastructure,
incentives for fleet vehicles such as
buses and trucks, and money for purchasers of electric bicycles and electric scooters. - ANC
