make time for this round! Which Northeast Florida museum features a conquistador helmet, cowboy boots, green jackets and a co-ed locker room? If you didn’t know the answer is the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum, it’s time for a visit! C elebrating more than 140 of golf’s greatest players and contributors, the Hall of Fame has something for everyone who loves the game. In addition to displays of historic artifacts, personal memorabilia and hands-on exhibits that seem to fill its galleries almost to capacity, it features a special exhibition paying tribute to the newest class of Inductees in Shell Hall and the Member Locker Room, housing more than 2,500 items alone. If you’re saying to yourself “What locker room?” - it’s probably time to find out! In addition to the Hall’s annual Induction exhibit which takes place the Monday of THE PLAYERS in May, there are many reasons for a golfer coming to Florida’s First Coast of Golf ® to visit this museum that has been a destination for golf fans since 1998. Many golfers dream of crossing the Swilcan Bridge at the Old Course – easier than a trek to St. Andrews, visitors can have their photo taken standing on an authentic replica of one of golf’s most iconic locations with the R&A Clubhouse in the background! In addition to being the highest point in Northeast Florida, the Hall’s Trophy Tower houses some of the most valuable hardware in the game – including authentic reproductions of golf’s major trophies. Heard that a professional or amateur golfer has set a record? Did you see an amazing shot hit by the winner of the last major tournament? It’s possible that items from those events have been sent to the Hall! The Hall recently opened a new exhibit called “History in the Making” which will spotlight items from special moments during the latest golf season along with video and photos. If it’s current and important – it just might be on display in this exhibit that will change several times during the year. During your golf trip, plan at least three hours for a visit, more time if you plan to play the Hall’s “Official Courses” – Slammer & Squire and King & Bear. The museum, located off I-95 exit 323 at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. MondaySaturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Can’t visit, but want to become part of the Hall of Fame? If you’ve had a hole-in-one, register it with those made by Hall of Fame members in the World Golf Hall of Fame Hole in One Registry for a donation of $25.
