2020 CATALYST HANDBOOK INDUSTRY CATEGORIES PROCESS CATEGORIES COMPANY INDEX PETROCHEMICAL Polypropylene production PolyMax 600 Series Application: PolyMax 600 Series catalysts are used in polypropylene (PP) production. Description: The PolyMax 600 series (Fig. 1) is developed as a convenient drop-in replacement for phthalate-based olefin polymerization catalysts. The series includes a variety of particle sizes to suit a broad range of process requirements for PP products, from textiles and automotive components to food packaging and healthcare products. The new catalysts promote robust production, producing polymers with excellent processability and superior mechanical properties. As the PolyMax 600 series is designed with a molecular weight distribution similar to phthalate catalysts, the behavior of resulting polymers remains unchanged. Moreover, producers benefit from up to 25% higher activity over past catalysts, as well as improved plant operability due to catalyst morphology and easy process control. Advantages: PolyMax 600 Series catalysts are phthalate-free and safe for food contact and medial PP grades. The use of PolyMax 600 Series catalysts results in polymers with enhanced durability and optimal stiffness and impact strength. Fig. 1. PolyMax 600 catalyst. Economics: The up to 25% higher activity results in significantly lower operating costs, improved plant operability and polymer processability. Development: Clariant's PolyMax 600 Series was globally launched in 2020. Supplier: Clariant International Ltd.
