the winch the burst head is pulled
toward the winch pit pulling the
pipe behind it."

Production cycles
Time to compete a burst varied
with length and soil conditions
which was mostly hard clay material in tree zones and silty clay in
open spaces.
"Average production was
about two linear feet per minute," said Gallagher. "At the peak
of production, the bursting head
was moving at a rate three and a
half feet per minute.
"When the burst head arrived
in the opposite pit, we shut down
equipment and removed the head
as far into the pit as we could and
pulled all hoses out of the pipe.
We made connections and had
the sewer line back in service before leaving in the evening."
Open-cut segments were done
with Komatsu PC228 excavators

and trucks to off-haul dirt.
Other work included construction of six new 48-inch and
60-inch sanitary sewer manholes;
replacement of two existing
manholes with new ones; abandonment and removal of two
manholes; pavement restoration;
and asphalt overlay and striping.
There also was additional concrete and asphalt construction
for sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
Ross Valley Sanitary District
operates and maintains approximately 200 miles of collection
sewer lines and 19 pump stations
which collect and transport four
million gallons of wastewater
per day to the Central Marin
Sanitation Agency for treatment.
Approximately 60 percent of the
district's collection system was
installed prior to 1955. District
offices are in San Rafael, Calif.

Protecting the Environment
The pipe alignment on this project went through the center of a
beautiful park in Ross, reflected George Mallakis, regional manager
of TT Technologies. "Space was tight, and conditions were tough," he
said. "We were surrounded on all sides with beautiful trees and special vegetation protected by strict environmental regulations. They
trees included coast redwoods, valley oaks, California Bay laurels
and gingkoes.
"The heavy root structures of the trees made the already-hard
soil conditions even more compact and tight. The pipe alignment
was not entirely straight, further complicating smooth pipe bursts.
The expertise of the Ranger Pipelines management, crews and Justin Seufert from Covello Groups made this difficult project go very
smoothly
"Strategically-planned runs executed with the right equipment
contributed to successful completion of this project without any impact to the trees or the root systems"
water transmission pipelines,
potable and recycled water supply systems, storm and sewer
systems, dry utilities, hydronic/
process piping systems and with
related civil roadway and general

Perma-Liner Celebrates 20 Years in Trenchless Pipeline Rehab Industry
Perma-Liner Industries LLC is celebrating 20 years in the trenchless pipeline
rehabilitation industry, marking a milestone of innovation and perseverance in an ever-changing and growing industry.
Founded in 1999 by Jerry D'Hulster, in Clearwater, Fla., Perma-Liner is
a leading manufacturer and supplier of trenchless pipeline rehabilitation
equipment and materials. Throughout the years, millions of feet of its
trenchless lateral liner solutions have been installed by customers across
North America. In the process, the company continually developed technology and equipment that has transformed the industry.
"While 20 years as a cured-in-place-pipe rehabilitation company is a
notable accomplishment, what continues to make Perma-Liner outstanding is dedicated staff and customers," said D'Hulster. "We are proud of and
grateful for our employees and customers who have made us the leader in
pipeline rehabilitation."
As a pioneer in CIPP industry, Perma-Liner was the first relining
company to achieve NSF approval, which allowed CIPP to be used on
the plumbing side for plumbing code approvals. The business continues
following a strict, in-house, quality-assurance program that coincided with
achieving NSF approval.
This early success reached a critical intersection with the challenging
economic times in 2008. With a collapsing economy and many companies
closing, Perma-Liner took a gamble and put on a nationwide roadshow
to bring the technology to customers. Across the country, the company
conducted live, outdoor demonstrations of its products and provided

educational sessions on its
sales, marketing, technical
support and other departments.
The gamble paid off.
No one in the industry
was doing a "U.S. Tour," and Perma-Liner capitalized on that. Touring also
revealed markets with the biggest need, leading to new facilities in Orange,
California; Plainfield, Illinois; and New Castle Delaware, as well as expansion in Clearwater. Through these local distribution centers, the company
improved and facilitated customer purchasing, pick-up and support.
Due to its innovative approach, experience and success, Perma-Liner
was acquired by Chicago-based water company Triwater Holdings LLC in
2013. Today, Perma-Liner is an integral part of Triwater's Waterline Renewal
Technologies (WRT) division, which also includes industry-leading brands
LMK Technologies and AP/M Permaform.
"As WRT looks toward the future of this trenchless industry, the Perma-Liner brand is positioned to be a leading solutions provider for years to
come," said Matt Fishbune, president of WRT. "The demand and adoption
rate for trenchless solutions continues to grow ... The momentum behind
the Perma-Liner brand is contagious, and we are creating a growth platform where we provide greater value together."
