The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
at Tufts University is pleased to announce the
establishment of the Alvin H. Howell Endowed
Professorship in Electrical Engineering. We are seeking a
forward-looking
individual
who
is
internationally
recognized for the impact of his/her scholarship and is
committed to interdisciplinary research and education.
Outstanding candidates from any subfield of electrical and
computer engineering are encouraged to apply.
We
expect to fill this position at the academic rank of full
professor.
Primary evaluation criteria will include a
demonstrated ability to build and sustain cross-disciplinary
research programs, the potential for developing
collaborations with current SOE faculty, and a track record
of successful and inclusive mentoring of graduate and
undergraduate students.
It is anticipated that the
successful candidate will contribute to one or more of the
SOE's three strategic focal areas: Engineering for Energy
and Environmental Sustainability, Bioengineering, and
Engineering Education Innovation.

The past four years have been a period of extraordinary
growth for Tufts School of Engineering, witnessing
recruitment of 43% of its current tenured and tenure-track
faculty members and a 70% increase in research
expenditures.
The SOE distinguishes itself by the
interdisciplinary and integrative nature of its engineering
education and research programs within the environment
of both a "Research Class 1" University and a top-ranked
undergraduate institution. We offer the best of a liberal
arts college atmosphere, coupled with the intellectual and
technological resources of a major research university. As
home to seven graduate and professional schools across
three campuses, Tufts University prides itself on its culture
of cross-School partnerships.
Located on Tufts'
Medford/Somerville campus, only six miles from historic
downtown Boston, SOE faculty members have extensive
opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration, as
well as participation in the rich intellectual life of the
region.
Candidates should possess an earned doctorate in
Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. The
applicant should clearly describe a research and teaching
plan that that builds on existing strengths and focal areas
within the ECE Department and the School of
Engineering.
Candidates should submit a letter of
application, research and educational plans, curriculum
vitae, and the names and contact information for three
references to Search Committee Chair, ECE Department,
161 College Avenue, Tufts University, Medford, MA 02155
or via email to endowedchair08@ece.tufts.edu. Review of
applications will begin immediately and will continue until
the position is filled. Tufts University is an Affirmative
Action / Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to
increasing the diversity of our faculty. Women and
members of underrepresented groups are strongly
encouraged to apply.
