PL ANNED GI V ING Documents and Databases Professional Advisor Network team learns about planning strategies, medical library O 16 n April 26, the Healthcare Foundation hosted the spring seminar for its Professional Advisor Network members. Michael L. Foreman, Esq., of Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsberg, PA, gave a presentation featuring “Planning for Incapacity.” Mr. Foreman emphasized the importance for individuals to have the proper legal documents, such as a durable power of attorney (Florida’s DPOA statute was overhauled in 2011); a living will; a last will and testament; a healthcare surrogate; and various types of trusts. Mr. Foreman is a member of the executive council and an at-large member representative for the 12th Circuit for Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, and is an active member of the Guardianship and Powers of Attorney committees of the section. He has been appointed by the section to serve on a task force that will modify the current guardianship law. Also at the event, librarian Patti Reynolds, director of Sarasota Memorial’s Bishopric Medical Library, spoke to the group about how philanthropy has enhanced the library’s state-of-the-art medical information. The library, which began transitioning from print to electronic resources in 2000, now subscribes to more than 1,200 electronic journals, owns more than 375 full-text electronic books, and subscribes to the most important medical databases: UpToDate, MDConsult, Cochrane Library and Natural Standard. Sarasota Memorial’s medical library is open to all hospital personnel and the community.
