Cover photo ©2011 Steven Biver I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as the new president of Medina Hospital. While I’m new to this role, I am not new to Medina Hospital. I’ve been a member of the hospital medical staff for 28 years while maintaining a family medicine practice. I’m also an active member of the community. My wife, Judy, and I have been here for 26 years and we have raised our children here. It is a great community. As a physician, I know how important it is to have the physicians and specialists you need in your community. For the past two years, I’ve worked with a team to bring additional medical expertise to Medina Hospital. We’ve come a long way, and we are not done yet. Some of the latest physicians who’ve joined us are: Mir Ali, MD, oncology Michael Amalfitano, DO, cardiology n Kristin Appleby, MD, neurology n Bill Barker, MD, pulmonology n Carrie Diulus, MD, spine surgery n n Lisa Mementowski, DO, primary care Seema Misbah, MD, oncology n Paul Shin, MD, pain management n n We’ve also been working to expand the services we offer at the hospital. We continue to build our programs in orthopaedics, cardiology, surgery and neurology. As you can see, the level of care we provide at Medina Hospital has grown significantly since we have become a Cleveland Clinic hospital. We’re also proud to offer our patients their own interactive health record through MyChart. It provides patients an opportunity to be actively involved in their healthcare. I hope you will take a few minutes to read more about this helpful and useful tool on page 6 of this issue. Medina Hospital has a strong tradition of caring. My goal is to continue to build on that foundation as we develop programs and services to meet the needs of our growing community. Tom Tulisiak, MD President, Medina Hospital Helicopter Update You have probably heard that in collaboration with the City of medina and the City of twinsburg, Cleveland Clinic has made the decision to relocate the helicopter that has been stationed at medina hospital since october 2010 to our new twinsburg family health and surgery Center. We were asked to relocate the helicopter from medina hospital, and, in our ongoing efforts to be a good neighbor, we made a commitment to this community that we would re-evaluate available options that led us to this decision. it is important to us that you are reassured that there will still be helicopter service at medina hospital. When we have critically ill patients who need transported, we will still have the ability to call for helicopter transport. We’ve proudly provided this service for more than 17 years and will continue to do so. medinahospital.org HEALTH ESSENTIALS 3 http://www.medinahospital.org
