New board members and physicians join the hospital family
KATHLEEN COOPER,
BSN, RN, CNOR, RNFA
Kathleen “Kathy” Cooper is a
recently elected member of
Beaufort Memorial’s Board of
Trustees and a certified perioperative nurse. Cooper, who holds a BS
in nursing from DePauw University
in Greencastle, Ind., works as both
an interim operating room educator for the Association
of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and a nursing
education consultant/nurse planner for the Lowcountry
Area Health Education Center (LCAHEC). She and her husband, Mike, live on Spring Island.
FAITH L. POLKEY,
MD, MPH
Recently elected to the BMH
Board of Trustees, Dr. Faith Polkey
is a board-certified pediatrician and the chief of pediatrics
at Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton
Comprehensive Health Services.
After graduating from the
University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in
biology, she earned her MD from Johns Hopkins University
School of Medicine and completed a pediatrics residency at
Duke University Medical Center and a preventive medicine
residency at University of North Carolina. Dr. Polkey and
her husband, Raynard, are residents of Beaufort.
STEPHEN LARSON, MD
Dr. Stephen Larson has joined
Beaufort Memorial’s Pratt
Emergency Center as medical
director. Dr. Larson received his
medical degree from Emory
University and completed a residency in emergency medicine at
Alameda County Medical Center in
Oakland, Ca. Before coming to Beaufort, the board-certified
emergency medicine physician was medical director of the
Department of Emergency Medicine at SSM DePaul Health
Center in St. Louis. He and his wife, Debbie, have three sons
and look forward to living in the Beaufort area.
ROBERT VYGE, MD
Beaufort Memorial Physician
Partners welcomed Dr. Robert
Vyge in July. The board-certified
internist, who will join Philip
Cusumano, MD, and Randy
Dalbow, MD, at Lady’s Island
Internal Medicine upon completion
of their new offices on Sea Island
Parkway, is currently seeing patients at Beaufort Memorial
Coastal Care MD on Ribaut Road. Dr. Vyge earned a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin,
then completed internships in general medicine, nephrology, urology and otolaryngology at Beaumont Hospital in
Dublin and a residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s
Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn., where he was chief
resident in internal medicine. He and his wife, Pamela, have
three daughters and live in Beaufort.
