OSCAR WILDE WAS RIGHT:
Sometimes life does imitate art. In the TV comedy Samantha Who? Christina Applegate played a woman who had been in an accident that caused her to forget her past. As bits and pieces of her memory returned in each episode, she dealt with the fallout, learned more about herself and tried to create a “new normal.” Applegate’s real-life battle with breast cancer reflects this journey in some ways. Like other breast cancer survivors, she was forced to face the unknown, and—in many ways— start anew. Although a diagnosis can be devastating and the treatment grueling, the worry of what comes next may be just as upsetting. Applegate knows firsthand.
