Waves Debuts Custom Plug-in Bundle Store
Waves has opened YourWaves, an online store that allows users to customize their plug-in buying experience to their specific needs rather than relying on one of the company’s many plug-in bundles. After registering, the user can chose from three approaches to building bundles: Artist Choice, Quick Choice, and Custom Choice. The Artist Choice option is intended for users who would like to take advantage of Waves products used by topflight engineers. An expanding roster of well-known engineers have created their own special bundles of indispensible Waves plug-ins, letting users quickly emulate their favorite signal chains. The initial roster includes Andrew Scheps, Gil Norton, Thom Russo, Ross Hogarth, and Scott Martin Gershin. The Quick Choice option allows users to choose any five plug-ins from selected groups to build cost-effective combinations; options exist to build packages to fit certain budgets and applications as well. Finally, Custom Choice allows complete personalization of one’s purchases, with only the plug-ins a user desires and none else. Each plug-in purchased in this fashion is registered separately, with its own serial number, allowing for maximum flexibility in future upgrades, including eventual purchase of the established bundles that the chosen plug-ins came from, such as the Masters bundle as an upgrade to the L2 limiter. Primacoustic Ships New ISO Tools
The first products in the new ISO Tools line of studio acoustics accessories from Primacoustic, first shown at the Winter NAMM Show, are now shipping. The CrashGuard is a sound-shielding device that fits over drum microphones to attenuate the sounds of nearby cymbals, allowing for cleaner miking with less bleed. It mounts directly on the boom stand and is held in place using the drum mic’s clip. Constructed of high-impact ABS to withstand stick hits, its underside is coated with opencell foam to absorb internal reflections and reduce phase cancellation, and an extended cable cutout eases precise positioning. It can be used to shield the snare from the hi-hat, toms from crash or ride cymbals, or a variety of percussion items from nearby cymbals on the kit. The KickStand is designed to improve the sound of kick drum or bass amp mics by effectively isolating them from floor vibrations, resonances, and mechanical rattle induced by PA systems. It decouples the mic from the floor and stabilizes its position with a massive base made from high-density foam bonded to a heavy steel platform, built tall enough to work well with short boom stands and shaped to eliminate standing waves. Milab Adds New Condenser Mic To Well-Established Series
Swedish mic maker Milab has been selling the DC-96 Series of handbuilt side-address large-diaphragm condenser microphones with rectangular capsules since 1967, including the current DC-196 3-pattern model. Milab’s newest model is the DC-96C, which shares most of the DC-196’s components, including its capsule, but is a cardioid-only design. The DC-96C is suitable for vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar amps, piano, drum hi-hats and overheads, and more. It’s a transformerless design with a switchable 12 dB pad. The mic features a 12 dBA self-noise and 144 dB max SPL rating; every unit ships with an individual frequency chart, windscreen, and stand adaptor, and is warrantied for the life of the mic.
