Lately I’ve been majoring in time-zone changes while on my own “dream tour” of customers to discuss our new 737 MAX (see story on page 9). Dateline for this missive is Seoul, Korea, home to two great customers, Korean and Asiana. Speaking of Asia, our Singapore event in early May was excellent and very well attended. Once again, ISTAT succeeded in bringing members together in that region, certainly a key market for many of us. Many thanks to co-chairs Steven Townend and Peter Huijbers for their leadership, and to the ISTAT staff for making it happen! Despite my heavy travels, I won’t miss the Farnborough Airshow this year. I’m looking forward to our downtown reception on the evening of 9 July, where I expect we’ll see well over a thousand members and friends. And while at Farnborough, we’ll also have the opportunity to draw on the hospitality at ISTAT’s Private Business Chalet, a first for us this year! See details on page 8. Industry wide, things are pretty good heading into air show time. Airlines are doing reasonably well, deliveries are fl owing and production rates going up, product financing is steady, and there’s demand for our products and services. At this writing, Europe’s economic recovery remains a work in progress given Greece’s uncertainty. In the States, meanwhile, our industry saw good news with the reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank, a key resource to U.S. exporters and our overseas customers. ISTAT also continues to do well. Plans are progressing for ISTAT Europe, the year-end receptions and next year’s ISTAT Americas in Orlando. Looking beyond, we had a team check out San Diego for our 2014 venue when ISTAT Americas returns to the West Coast. It’s looking good for our experiment on whether members prefer being all together under one roof in a resort-type setting, or in a city experience. We’ll be very interested in your member feedback as we go through the experience. Lastly, I wanted to acknowledge the passage of Bill Bath, one of the founding members of ISTAT and a friend to many of us. While he’ll be missed, his contributions to the Society and enthusiasm for what we’re about will endure. Here’s hoping we can raise a glass together in his memory very soon!
