Sources of Revenue
Since 2009, the SAE Foundation has been working diligently to minimize financial risk through the diversification of our funding base. Over the last three years, the SAE Foundation has increased its total dollars raised annually (see Dollars Raised vs. CPDR chart) through increased giving from a number of different sectors/groups. In particular, funding increases have been seen from individuals, aerospace companies, and new sectors not historically affiliated with the SAE Foundation.

Dollars Raised vs. Cost per Dollar Raised
Since the end of the Centennial Campaign in 2008, the SAE Foundation has paid close attention to efficiency in how we raise funds. The SAE Foundation’s goal is to keep the CPDR below $0.17 annually, and the strategy for accomplishing this is simple: spend less and raise more. The key to how we implement the “spend less, raise more” strategy is through our volunteer leaders on the SAE Foundation Board of Trustees who dedicate much of their personal time to raise funds on behalf of the SAE Foundation.

*Dollars Raised includes new cash contributions and new multi-year pledges made during each fiscal year— revocable planned gifts from individuals and payments on multi-year pledges made in prior years are not included. **Cost per Dollars Raised (CPDR) is based on annual fundraising expenses vs. dollars raised in the same year. For example, in 2011, $0.12 of every dollar raised was spent on fundraising expenses and $0.88 of every dollar raised was used to support and administer SAE Foundation education programs. ^End of the Centennial Campaign
