FEATURE CARBON FIBER WASTE RTM and WCM-Reuse of Carbon Fiber Waste in Composite Structures Fabian Albrecht1, Philipp Rosenberg1, Katharina Heilos2, Marcel Hofmann2, Frank Henning1 Fraunhofer-Institute for Chemical Technology ICT, Pfintzal, Germany 1 Saxon Textile Research Institute, Chemnitz, Germany 2 Email: frank.henning@ict.fraunhofer.de ABSTRACT T he Fraunhofer-Institute for Chemical Technology ICT and the Saxon Textile Research Institute (STFI) investigate a value-added chain from dry fiber waste to CFRP components based on recycled carbon fibers (rCF) using non-woven semifinished products. In addition to the optimization and identification of interactions between non-woven production and consolidation, the project includes the mechanical characterization of composite plaques manufactured with High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding (HP-RTM) and Wet Compression Molding (WCM). The results show that production waste can be processed to non-wovens and the successful infiltration of various non-woven fabrics made out of rCF was demonstrated. 40 | SAMPE JOURNAL Mar Apr Journal 2021.indd 40 | M A R C H /A P R I L 2 0 2 1 w w w. s a m p e . o r g 2/9/2021 8:51:44 AMhttp://www.sampe.org
