SEAHO Report - Spring 2011 - (Page 3)

A seaHo President Greetings SEAHO Colleagues! s I am writing this update, I am reflecting on the tremendous conference hosted by the great folks from Mississippi. We were so fortunate to have Chris Crenshaw and Ann Morgenstern serve as the conference hosts. You may have heard that prior to the conference Chris became the Director of University Physical Plant at the University of Southern Mississippi. Because of his commitment to SEAHO, Chris remained with the host committee and he and Ann provided us a wonderful convention. Mississippi reported more than 500 members attended the conference in Mobile. To the members of the Host Committee, volunteers, associates, and presenters, I want to thank you on behalf of SEAHO for a great conference! Under the able leadership of Gay Perez, SEAHO advanced as an organization. During our business meeting, members voted to support important initiatives that will keep SEAHO a vibrant and growing association. One important initiative is the regional hosting model. Steve Stauffer spearheaded the committee that has worked tirelessly on the validity of regional sites. Steve has graciously agreed to remain on the Governing Council as we transition to our regional hosting model in 2013. Members also approved changes to the SEAHO Report, and the model by which the report will be produced. I hope that you enjoy the new format of this SEAHO Report! This inaugural issue is full of exciting information designed to assist us as housing professionals. My thanks to Scott Nelson and the entire University of Georgia staff for hosting the SEAHO report for several years. During my remarks at the closing luncheon, I stated that in the coming year SEAHO would focus on remaining relevant to our mission. As an association, we are committed to advancing the knowledge base of our members, and serving as a conduit for information to assist each of you in the performance of your job on your campus. Moreover, I stated that we would seek ways to stabilize conference income. SEAHO relies on the conference income to fund the operating budget each year. Significant pressure is placed on the host committee to make or exceed the budget requirements. This tension needs to be addressed, and I will be asking the Reserve Fund Committee to make recommendations for ways to support the operating budget without overtly burdening the host committee. Congratulations to our President-elect, Adrienne Frame from FSU, and Kayla Hamilton, Member At Large from Emory University. Congratulations also to the new State Representatives and Committee Chairs. Welcome to the SEAHO Governing Council. Already plans are underway for our next annual conference appropriately themed, I Heart SEAHO in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Looking ahead, we have much to accomplish this year. Please continue to support SEAHO and seek out opportunities to become more involved. This is a great organization and your contributions and involvement serve to make it stronger. Respectfully submitted, Paul Riel SEAHO President contents reports news awards features regions
