CHEMICAL & ELECTRONICS GROUP Diversified CPC Acquires Pure Chem Separation SCOA’s Subsidiary Looks To Provide Next Generation of Aerosol Products And Expand Market Possibilities S umitomo Corporation of America (SCOA) subsidiary Diversified CPC International Inc. (DCPC), a leading propellant gas supplier, acquired Pure Chem Separation, L.P. (PCS) in May of this year, showing how SCOA and its subsidiaries can foster corporate social responsibility through businesses that benefit the environment while entering new markets for future growth. The new entity, Diversified Pure Chem, LLC., shows how DCPC is leading the industry in recycling and reuse of refrigerants by acquiring all the assets of this refrigerant recycling pioneer. DCPC made its mark as a global leader in the production and manufacturing of the highest quality aerosol, propellants, specialty gases, alternative fuels, NGL refrigerants, physical foam blowing agents, and related products available, while PCS fostered a progressive and eco-conscious process for the recycling of existing refrigerants as an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certified Refrigerant Reclaimer. “This acquisition expands DCPC’s reach into the fluorocarbon refrigerant markets, with a focus on recycle and reuse,” according to William N.Auriemma, President & CEO, DCPC. “DCPC will continue to expand and develop its refrigerant recycle and reprocessing capabilities, in support of the EPA’s intent to create sustainable refrigerant recycling businesses.” Auriemma stated that initial interest in Pure Chem Separation came over a year ago, but by February of this year, DCPC realized this was a company they seriously wanted to acquire, “This acquisition expands DCPC’s reach into the fluorocarbon refrigerant markets, with a focus on recycle and reuse,” according to William N. Auriemma, President & CEO, DCPC. taking into account the limited expansion of DCPC in its current markets. “Our core business is gas processing and gas purification, most of which now goes through the aerosol propellant market,” Auriemma explained, “but our current businesses, while they are strong cash-flow performing businesses, are in mature markets. The consumer products industry that we participate in, for the most part, is an under-3% growth industry, so we’re looking for growth opportunities that still stay close to businesses that we understand. We felt that our core businesses were pretty much maxed out, so we have a multi-year strategic plan that involves a certain growth initiative, and that growth will need to be done primarily through acquisition and additional product lines. We have a growth model for our business for both the top line and income lines, and the PCS acquisition fits the strategy and puts us into another area of the business, and adds product lines for us.” “PCS dovetailed nicely into an area we already know and understand,”Auriemma continued,“and an area our operations people can get their arms around very quickly. Also, a very large portion of PCS’s customer/supplier base includes companies like DuPont, Honeywell and Mexichem, and DCPC already has multimillion dollar relationships with those companies, so knowing the customer base and the supplier base quite well, and them knowing us quite well, was a big factor.” According to Auriemma, Diversified Pure Chem provides refrigerant gases that are contained in everything from commercial, industrial and residential air-conditioned cooling units to convenience store chillers and coolers.
