THE
CONQUERING
HERO
There are a number of new gameplay
opportunities to be found in Assassin's
Creed Odyssey, but none sound quite as intriguing as the sequel's Conquest battles.
These conflicts will occur at certain points
in the story, but they can also be incited
in the open world if there is enough strife
between the region's warring factions of
Sparta and Athens. Conquests will involve
the biggest battles in series history, with
countless soldiers from each side clashing
on the battlefield. These skirmishes will
also play host to powerful mercenaries, testing the player's combat prowess
beyond butting heads with low-level
grunts. The abilities granted by the aforementioned Spear of Leonidas will come
in handy when facing down these threats,
and should the player prove victorious,
they will be permitted to claim the mercenaries' powerful gear as their own. The
spoils of war are fruitful in Conquests.

wield a mystic weapon called the Spear of
Leonidas. This artifact, previously handled by
the leader of the 300 Spartans, was originally
created by the series' First Civilization, a society
of beings that predates humanity on Earth.

The Assassin's Creed
series seems to have
no limit to the lore it
can offer fans.

The Spear can be upgraded to unlock a
number of unique abilities for the player, such
as a chain-combo assassination maneuver, or
a powerful Spartan kick to blast enemies off of
their feet. These abilities will complement both
stealthy and aggressive playstyles, or even a
mixture of the two. Players will also find them
useful in situations outside of standard assassinations and sword fights, as naval combat
makes a return in Odyssey, along with the introduction of the new large-scale Conquest battles.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a fusion of new
and returning features, set upon a historical
backdrop from which some of mankind's key
legends originated. The Assassin's Creed series
seems to have no limit to the lore it can offer
fans, and of all the time periods that needed to
be explored in these games, ancient Greece is
right near the top.
