Industry News Comefri USA to Offer NovaTorque PremiumPlus+ Motors as Alternative to Induction Motors Comefri USA, Inc. has selected NovaTorque, Inc. as its supplier of efficient electronically commutated permanent magnet (ECPM) motors. The two companies recently signed a supply agreement for calendar year 2014. Comefri USA's R&D Director, Franco Cincotti, said, "Our in house testing of the NovaTorque motor with Comefri Direct Drive Plenum Fans confirmed a substantial efficiency advantage over the recent NEMA Premium induction motor standards. Further, unlike induction motors, NovaTorque motors maintain their high efficiency over a very broad speed and load range, making them ideal for variable speed fan applications. We were also impressed with the uniqueness, ruggedness and inherent reliability of their design." Driven by variable frequency drives, NovaTorque 2 hp to 10 hp PremiumPlus+ ECPM motors boast rated point efficiencies of 92 percent to 94 percent, reducing motor losses (wasted energy) by 30 percent to 40 percent when compared with current NEMA Premium induction motors. NovaTorque motors conform to standard NEMA dimensions for easy substitution. Like all permanent magnet motors, NovaTorque motors require a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to operate. Virtually all leading providers of VFDs offer standard models compatible with NovaTorque motors. Kyntrol Acquires Comptrol Inc. to Expand Motion Control Products Line Kyntrol has acquired Cleveland-based Comptrol, Inc. Comptrol manufactures products and systems for precision tension measurement, linear motion, part weighing and industrial automation. Kyntrol LLC, a subsidiary of Kyntrol Holdings Inc. headquartered in Eastlake OH announced that it has acquired the assets and business operations of Cleveland-based Comptrol, Inc. Since 1952, Comptrol has been involved in the design and manufacture of products and systems for precision tension measurement, linear motion, part weighing and industrial automation. Comptrol products have been applied into many diverse and demanding markets including glass manufacturing, steel, automotive, tire and rubber, converting, transportation, paper manufacturing and others. Comptrol's linear motion products expand from Ball Screw and Acme Screws (in either inches or metric, rolled, precision rolled or ground), special machining, assemblies, bearing blocks, end mounted bearing supports, ball nuts (preloaded and non-preloaded), linear actuators, slides and either single axis or multi-axis positioning systems. Comptrol is a full service linear motion supplier. Comptrol's Quality Verification Weighcells for 100 percent continuous process monitoring and Control offer customers a more precise method of weighing. Comptrol's Quality Verification Weighcells and controls have provided a fast accurate nondestructive method of monitoring and/or controlling the quality www.e-DriveOnline.com of every part that can affect not only quality but product safety for more than 60 years. Akin to the Motion Control Systems offered at Kyntrol, Comptrol has had extensive experience working with OEM's, end users, and system designers on numerous new and retrofit applications. Kyntrol LLC designs and manufactures motion control products and solutions for the Aerospace, Defense, Medical, Solar and General Industrial markets. "Kyntrol acquired Comptrol Inc., to broaden its product offering and build on the strong tradition and quality name of Comptrol," said Wayne Foley, president of Kyntrol. "This acquisition expands the range of motion control products Kyntrol offers while opening the door for Kyntrol's innovative Electro-Hydraulic and Electro-Mechanical actuation technology to Comptrol's broad customer base. We are very excited to welcome the Comptrol team and its customers to the Kyntrol group and pledge to maintain the level of quality they've come to expect." Highland Controls Supports Motion Control Customers with New Certification and Products Highland Controls has received an industry certification and now distributes and integrates products from manufacturers, including Yaskawa America Drives & Motion Division, Delta Tau Data Systems and STOBER Drives. National Instruments (NI) has designated Highland Controls as an Alliance Partner, a widely recognized certification for companies that integrate NI and third party motion controllers into LabVIEW applications. Known for supporting engineers and scientists with tools and techniques for accelerated discovery, innovation and productivity, NI offers a graphical system design approach to engineering. NI provides an integrated software and hardware platform that speeds the development of systems that need measurement and control. "We pursued the certification to ensure that we're aligned with the latest technologies and training to ensure that we provide our customers with the best solutions," Highland Controls President Brian Beal says. "As a motion control systems integrator, we look forward to supporting their unique needs with outstanding motion control and related products." Highland Controls recently became a distributor of motion control products from STOBER Drives. Solutions from STOBER Drives include gearing solutions that are designed to help many different applications perform better over a longer period. Highland Controls is also an integrator for Yaskawa America, Inc. Drives & Motion Division. Yaskawa is the world's largest manufacturer of AC drives and motion control products that include adjustable frequency drives, servo amplifiers, servomotors, machine controllers, and motion controllers. For example, Highland Controls supports customers with Sigma-5 rotary servo motors and drives, MP2600 single-axis controller/drive and MP2300Siec, MP2310iec, and MP3200iec multi-axis motion controllers.
