power perspective 3 to 15kW Electron-Beam Power-Supplies provide low-stored energy and an instrumented front panel High-Voltage DC Power Supplies four versions offer embedded power design options P roviding up to 15kW, the ERX/ERC high-voltage electronbeam evaporation power supplies are from Unipower LLC. The power supplies are packaged in a single, rack-mountable, air-cooled chassis. They combine a stable 0.05%, low-ripple high-voltage output power source of up to 10kV with a filament supply that provides up to 7V RMS output with integrated filament and emission current regulation. According to the company, the electron-beam evaporation power supplies provide low-stored energy, remote control operation, air-insulated high-voltage section and an instrumented front panel. The 3kW and 6 to 15kW power supplies operate from a single phase 230V AC input and three-phase 208V AC, respectively. They weigh between 18.65 and 24kg and measure 483x267x558mm. Unipower F our, regulated, high-voltage DC power supplies have been launched by Glassman High Voltage. The FJ 120W has embedded microcontroller control, with front panel digital encoders that provide adjustment of voltage and current programmes, says the company. RS232 and USB ports enable remote control programming. It provides arc count and selectable current trip or constant current mode control. The 300W FR and 120W FJ power supplies are both air insulated and suitable for a rack mounting with a 1.75inch panel height. The 300W MQ power supply saves space with no front panel displays. The 600W EJ series can be rack mounted with a panel height 3.5inch. It provides embedded controls with low ripple and noise, says the company. The MHP-TA is a series of resettable, thermal cut-off, metal hybrid PPTC (polymeric positive temperature co-efficient) devices, providing lithium battery protection. The devices measure 5.8x3.75x1.15mm and offer a 9V DC rating. They provide resettable over-temperature protection, while using the PPTC as a heater. The devices have two models with low and high-current capacities. The lowcurrent MHP-TA6-9 provide a 6A hold current at 25°C and the highcurrent MHP-TA15-9 provide a hold current of 15A. The low-current devices operate at temperatures of 72, 77, 82 and 85°C and the high-current devices at 72, 77, 82, 85 and 90°C. te connectivity 16 C ompact, lightweight hydrogen fuel cells have been co-developed by Rohm with Kyoto-based Aquafairy and Kyoto University. The cells are claimed to overcome the drawbacks of dry cells, lithium-ion cells, and direct methanol fuel cells, while reducing weight and providing power in places where AC power cannot be used. By solidifying calcium hydride in a sheet configuration, approximately 4.5l of hydrogen is generated from a sheet less than 3cc in volume (measuring 38x38x2mm), providing a power output of 5Whr. The compact hydrogen fuel cells operate at ambient temperatures, making them suitable for use in smartphone chargers, tablet PCs, as power sources outdoors and in remote areas, as well as in emergency back-up power supplies. roHm semiconDUctor www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=49143 December 2012 – epn issue n° 12 www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=49141 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=48975 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=48914 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=49143 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=49141
