CareerTech VISION 2012

CTE is a decisive step to help the CTE community meet the challenges of our transformational and global environment. Designed to be an integral component of individual and institutional professional development strategies, CareerTech VISION 2012 is the most valuable CTE event of the year. It will not only provide education that can be put into practice today, but it will also stimulate our thinking about new ways to engage with business and industry, collaborate with other education partners and bring excitement and relevance to the classroom.

What to Expect
CareerTech VISION 2012 is organized around seven key themes that represent the overarching issues of the education system: Administrative/Operational Success; Advocacy/Partnerships; Assessment; Business and Industry Training; Program Models; Student Engagement and Success; and Teacher/Faculty Success. This programming model is completely customizable and centered on you, enabling you to focus on the sessions that best fit your personal and institutional goals. Idea Labs and Deep Dive Sessions: Within each theme, programming will be presented in two formats: Idea Labs and Deep Dive sessions. You will find the one-hour Idea Labs similar to traditional program sessions as you explore a particular model or development applicable to your program or classroom. The two-hour Deep Dives will help you to drill deeper into some of the most exciting and innovative concepts in CTE. This mix of sessions gives you total freedom of choice so that you can make the most of these diverse offerings and enjoy flexibility in your own professional learning. Comprehensive Tracks: For the first time, two of the most important leaders in CTE program models will be offering specific programming strands. The Southern Regional Education Board will be presenting a customized strand in line with its High Schools/Technical

Centers That Work programs, and the International Center for Leadership in Education is bringing programming from its Model Schools Conference. These two leaders in education will present some of the best in program development available today—together exclusively at CareerTech VISION 2012. Common Core State Standards + CTE: ACTE has been working hard to promote CTE’s active involvement in planning and implementation as state Common Core efforts move forward. CareerTech VISION 2012 offers a range of critical sessions that will help you connect CTE to the Common Core State Standards. You’ll also receive detailed information on what states are doing and practical tips for engaging with academic colleagues. School Team Debriefing: To help your school-improvement team connect the dots at the end of each day, we have built in debriefing times and locations within the summit schedule. This will give your team a valuable opportunity to share what you have learned, begin the process of putting it into practice and make plans for the next day. CareerTech Expo: Another important part of the learning experience is the CareerTech Expo which will showcase a wide range of products, processes and services offered by companies who support CTE. At the Expo, you will get to interact with over 400 companies and spend hands-on time with the education solutions that best solve your unique challenges. VISIONmobile: As part of our efforts to create CTE’s most dynamic and professional learning experience, we are proud to present VISIONmobile, which will be available on iOS, Android and BlackBerry mobile platforms and from any mobile browser. Build your agenda, find just the right exhibitors for your program, network with fellow attendees, save notes from key sessions, and use social media to follow and share the best of VISION… and so much more.

CTE at Its Best
CareerTech VISION 2012 is about learning, engaging, networking and having fun. It is about recognizing, sharing and celebrating the best of CTE. We come together as a vibrant community of forward-thinking educators to appreciate the milestones we have reached, to learn together and to plan now for our future achievements. In addition to the cuttingedge programming and value-packed sessions, CareerTech VISION 2012 also features these highlights: • CTE Awards Banquet—An evening devoted to recognizing and honoring the top educators in our field, as well as outstanding business and industry supporters. • Resource Center—A special area where you can get hands-on time with new tools and information offered exclusively by ACTE. • Lunch in the CareerTech Expo Hall to facilitate your time with companies and colleagues. • Leadership activities to meet your professional needs related to CTE and ACTE. ACTE is proud to present CareerTech VISION 2012 on November 28– December 1, 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout this issue of Techniques, you will learn more about the event and what you can get out of it. We hope you are ready to catch the VISION—because together, we make it work!
