"Hospital beds aren't conducive to recovery," Cartwright
says. "What makes us different is our environment coupled with
a full suite of services that treat addiction, as well as behavioral
health issues. At other facilities, a lot of the time, you're in a
hospital bed. Our treatment experience is exceptional and each
facility is designed to promote healing. I want to make sure you
get the best possible care."

A FAST-GROWING BUSINESS

This emphasis on high-quality care has fueled American Addiction Centers' fast growth. The company, which was founded in
2004, has nearly 500 beds at six facilities in Nevada, Texas, California, and Florida. In 2010, it had just one location - a 76-bed
location in California.
Not surprisingly, its expansion has been accompanied by
positive revenue growth. American Addiction Centers posted a
three-year revenue growth rate of 995 percent from 2010 to
2013. In 2013, the company posted revenues of $115 million -
up from just $66 million the previous year.
It's this financial success that Cartwright believes will help
fund further research as well as providing resources to continually enhance the care and environment at the treatment locations. The company plans to open two more detoxification
facilities - one in 2015 and another in 2016 - and is also adding
two smaller outpatient facilities to complement services in its
existing markets.
This growth is being aided by the recent public offering of
its parent holding company, AAC Holdings Inc., which registered and sold shares totaling more than $78.5 million. Cartwright says AAC isn't content to stand still and is using public
investment to help expand its footprint and reach more people.
"We want to have a great product that anyone in the United
States can access," Cartwright says. "Everyone deserves the
opportunity to be healthy and to live a better life. That's what
we're striving to provide."

"For years, finding effective addiction treatment has been a hit-or-miss
proposition. Many health care systems offer various levels of treatment,
and "mom and pop" organizations that aren't connected to a national
network also provide care to varying degrees of success," says Michael
Cartwright.
American Addiction Centers is working to professionalize the industry
and create more consistency of care. The company is building a large
network of facilities that provides patients with an array of options,
based on their individual needs.
