letter from the president It is with great excitement that I welcome three new Corporate Partners to NEWH, Signature Hospitality Carpets, Serta and NLP Furniture Industries, Inc. We are thrilled to have them join our most important family of Corporate Partners and look forward to continuing our strong and collaborative relationships! I am also excited to introduce the first NEWH Magazine issue dedicated to the worldwide initiative of “GREEN.” We believe that part of being a responsible corporate citizen in today’s economy demands not only an understanding of environmental issues, but also a proactive approach to address these issues when and where we can. The hospitality industry is becoming more active every day in this arena and we are sure you will enjoy our “GREEN” features in this issue. Jeanne Varney Host Marriott Corporation HD Boutique Expo in South Beach Miami, will be held earlier than usual this year in mid-September. This year will be extra special as we have a prestigious international event scheduled, in addition to our traditional booth at the show. In conjunction with the South Florida Chapter’s BUBBLE BASH fundraiser, we will be celebrating our School from the Heart program with special guests. This celebration promises to be a most exciting event so stay tuned for details! A second vitally important feature in this issue is the discussion on a NEWH joint initiative with UNICEF, School from the Heart. NEWH has pledged to raise in excess of $50,000 for this initiative within the next year. This incredibly worthy venture delivers essential learning and teaching supplies to communities where educational services have been disrupted due to sudden severe situations. For more information on the initiative, read on in the Magazine or visit our website at www.newh.org. I’d like to take a moment to celebrate our great success in the scholarship arena. Many people are aware that we have awarded over $1.3 million in scholarships to deserving hospitality students. Did you know that last year alone, we awarded over $110,000 in scholarships? Few other organizations can achieve such a significant accomplishment. Congratulations to each Chapter’s exemplary fundraising efforts and generosity and, most importantly, many thanks to each of our members, Corporate Partners and supporters who enable such amazing accomplishments for NEWH!
