Rounding Up the "Kids"
M onroE - Late last spring I was
flagged down by a driver who reported
seeing what he thought was an injured
turkey down the road from our location.
The driver said the turkey appeared to
be dragging both wings. I located the
turkey, but she wasn't injured. She was
attempting to corral about a dozen tiny
poults.

Working for Doughnuts
ClEarfiEld - I brought WCO Chris
Ivicic doughnuts to use as bait for trapping nuisance bears. While dropping
off the pastries, Chris instructed his
sons there was yard work to do around
the house, but both boys quickly disappeared. Chris then yelled upstairs to
the boys that bear bait had arrived, and
it needed unloaded from my vehicle.
They magically appeared to handle
that chore.

Cleaning Up the Source
a rMStrong - Pine Creek Sportsmen's Club held its annual clean-up
day, and Deputy Don Berry and I
encountered many members picking up
trash along the rural roads. They were
happy when they discovered we were
investigating several dumping violations along the same roads they were
cleaning up.

Words of Wisdom
SuSquEhanna - Someone once told
me the older you get, the busier you get.
I now realize the truth of that statement.
I also was told gray hair is a sign of
wisdom. If that is the case, I'm wising
up real fast.

Dogged Pursuit
Last fall, I attended a women's
pheasant hunt geared toward new hunters to learn what motivated participants
to try hunting. Several in the group said
they'd started off with no real interest
in hunting, but got hunting-breed dogs
as pets. After being dragged off of sidewalks chasing scent trails, or tripping
over their dogs when they unexpectedly
froze on point after catching scent, they
decided to follow their dogs' instincts
and give hunting a try. It just goes to
show that a dedicated bird dog can train
even an inexperienced hunter.

Where was the Anesthesiologist?
EriE - A deer entered Hamot Hospital through the automatic door and
was running through the halls. Thanks
to hospital staff and the Erie Police
Department, the deer was contained
before it was seriously injured. I tranquilized the deer, and the staff loaded
it onto a hospital gurney and wheeled
it to my vehicle. I then transported the
deer out of town, and released it after
the sedative wore off.
