NewsBeat CAK Installs Board, Honors Members The Contractors Association of Kauai (CAK) installed officers and elected a board of directors for 2014 on Dec. 5 in ceremonies conducted by Judge Gerald Matsunaga. CAK also presented service awards to member companies acknowledged for their contributions to the association, the construction industry and the community. The Kenneth Shioi General Contractor of the Year honors went to Cushnie Construction. The Wayne E. Ellis Associate Member of the Year honors went to Service Rentals and Supplies. The Robert H. Rask Community Service Award was presented to honorary CAK member Domingo "Don" Lutao. The Tetsuro "Rosy" Maeda Member of the Year award, named in honor of the late founder of the Contractors Association of Kauai, went to Earthworks Pacific. The company kicked off its fundraising efforts by presenting a check for $25,000 to University of Hawaii Cancer Center Dec. 19 in Kakaako. Construction through a series of low-density, eight-story residential buildings will begin in mid-2014, with completion expected by late 2016. Located on about eight acres stretching along a quarter mile of Ala Moana Blvd., from Neiman Marcus to Piikoi St., the residences will consist of Hawaiian-style design and architecture. Units will average 2,000 square feet, from 850 square-foot one bedrooms to 6,000 square-foot fivebedroom penthouses, all with 10-foot ceilings and ocean views. Some also will feature tropical gardens, private lap and plunge pools, private garages, lanai as large as 1,100 square feet, and indoor-outdoor kitchens and private grills.
