Chartering in Europe
The European Union requires additional certification to charter
a boat - the International Certificate of Competency or ICC.
According to IYT (International Yacht Training) Worldwide
(IYTWorldwide.com):
The ICC is a certificate confirming that an individual is
competent to the level required to meet the United Nations
Economic Commission for Europe Inland Water Committee
(UNECE IWC) Resolution 40.
The 24M ICC issued by IYT has been approved by the
British Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and by
Transport Canada so that holders of the 24M ICC
(Canadian Edition) will not require a Pleasure Craft
Operator Card (PCOC) to operate a pleasure boat in
Canada, provided the section on "Canadian Boating
Requirements" has been completed. Holders of a current
IYT 24M ICC can "upgrade" to the Canadian Edition by
completing a short course and examination.
The 10M ICC issued by IYT has been approved by the British
Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
IYT goes on to say that with changes going on in Europe, the
Intermediate Standard along with the ICC may still not be
sufficient proof of competence in some areas, so check before
you confirm your booking.

on my own boat. I have found my meal planning - especially
portions and amounts has significantly improved my onboard
life and had less negative impact on my budget.
TMM charters in the BVIs lists all of the grocery stores in the
islands. You can find it on the website (sailtmm.com) under
>Yacht Charters>Provisioning.

Travel to Destination
Several years ago, I did a study on the success of all-inclusive
vacations in the Caribbean. One of the major contributing factors to the desirability of vacation resorts is the convenience of
everything in one place and the lower cost of travel. In chartering, we see the same concern. How expensive and how much
time will it take to get to your chosen charter destination? We
can go back to our value equation to understand the decision
process of different charters.
If you are looking for more natural, less developed and
fewer crowds (less aggravation), then you may be willing to
invest a few more dollars and time to travel to your destination. If, however you have a restricted schedule and a tighter
budget you may be willing to accept more aggravation such
as more crowded anchorages and a full range of international
brands in restaurants and hotel choices versus locally owned
and operated services.
In looking at travel, from Canada to the Caribbean, the more
desirable places usually involve a full day of travel and two or
three transportation changes, such as two flights and a ferry ride
(typical to the British Virgin Islands). Although Nassau is a
direct flight from Toronto, almost everyone outside the GTA will
have to take at least one extra flight to get to Toronto.
Some places, like St Vincent and the Grenadines, have
answered that issue with a new airport. St. Vincent's Argyle
International Airport (AIA) is located at Argyle Gardens on the
Windward side of the island, approximately 30 minutes from the
capital - Kingstown. According to the St Vincent and
Grenadines Tourist Office (The airport services international
flights, flights to and from other Caribbean destinations, and the
Grenadines. Argyle International Airport opened on Valentine's
Day of 2017 and it is the first International airport in the destination. Air Canada Rouge was the first international airline for
their airport with direct flights to Toronto. From the main island
of St. Vincent, visitors are able to easily go and explore the
Grenadines by charter boat.

Close
You have many choices on when, where and how to charter. You
can keep it simple by calling a 1-800 number and make all of the
arrangements in one call or you can invest time and energy to
put all of the pieces together yourself. You can sail, crew or passenger. Choose between power or sail; monohull or catamaran.
The key to a successful charter vacation is being prepared -
mentally, physically and financially.
Mentally. Some days you will not be able to sail. There
