The group that makes up VMSD’s first Designer Dozen broadcasts an exciting future for retail.
When it comes to the forefront of 21st Century retailing, these are the people you want to know. For 2012, VMSD introduces a new annual awards program designed to honor and celebrate the young talent in our industry. Among this inaugural group you’ll find in-house designers and visual merchandising experts for a range of retail sectors – from luxury eyewear and accessories to department stores and coffee (power)houses – and design firm standouts who’ve spanned the globe with innovative, eye-popping work. As the retail industry emerges from its recession slumber, these 12 young professionals are behind the innovation and drive that’s kick-starting us back into action. They’re armed with a range of skills and they understand the challenges they face, from the globalization of retail to the breakneck pace and budget constraints involved in almost every project. What’s the overriding sentiment from this select group of designers? It’s an exciting time to be in retail. “Retailers are getting excited to get out there again,” says one of this year’s Designer Dozen.
