APMA News - January/February 2023 - 24

we need the voice of APMA at the local, state, and
federal levels.
Student recruitment has become a large focus
and a significant concern to me; without increasing
the number of student applicants, our profession,
as we know it, will collapse.
Our volunteer workforce and highly skilled
staff are achieving our strategic goals, as well
Scott Hughes, DPM
Candidate for Re-election
to the Board of Trustees
It has been my honor and privilege
to serve on the APMA Board
of Trustees for the past six years.
The people at APMA are the best
I have ever worked with, and I'm proud of the
work we do to serve our members. I feel very
lucky that my assignments on the board have
allowed me to contribute in the areas that motivated
me to run for the board in the first place.
As chair of the Committee for Physician Parity,
I was very encouraged that the 2022 House of
Delegates overwhelmingly supported Policy
Proposition 2-22: Recognition of Physician Parity
with 39 cosponsors.
I am the BOT liaison to CPME and served on
the Ad Hoc Committee for the CPME 320 rewrite.
Robert Sage, DPM
Candidate for Election
to the Board of Trustees
I am Bob Sage from Wisconsin,
and I am excited to announce
my candidacy for the APMA
Board of Trustees.
I have been an active leader throughout
my career. I started out at the APMA House of
Delegates as a young member and have been an
active participant for many years including serving
in leadership roles in Acey-Ducey, the caucus of
small states.
Membership has always been near and dear
to my heart. In addition to being membership
director at my state level, I have been on the APMA
Membership Committee most of my career, currently
serving as chair.
I am a two-time past president of the Wisconsin
Podiatric Medical Association and was instrumental
in the passage of many bills, including updating the
practice act.
as defining new ones. Now more than ever, we
need to come together and work as one for our
entire profession.
Thank you for allowing me to serve and giving
me the opportunity to continue my service
to APMA, our members, and our profession as a
whole.
I continue to believe that milestones are the best
way to incorporate traditional podiatric training into
our residencies to ensure that podiatrists remain
the preeminent providers of foot and ankle care
in America.
I am also the liaison to the American Association
of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine. We continue to
collaborate with AACPM as we address our student
recruitment crisis, which, in my opinion, is the
most urgent threat to our profession.
My definition of leadership is to care deeply,
focus on creating a better future, and collaborate
well with others. I strive to do that every day
as I think about what is best for our profession.
I hope that I have earned your confidence and
trust. I would be grateful for your support and
the opportunity to continue to serve on the
APMA Board of Trustees.
Also, I am currently on the Midwest Podiatry
Conference Board of Directors, the chair of
Wisconsin's Podiatry Affiliated Credentialing
Board, and president of the medical staff at my
local hospital.
My Core Beliefs:
We must continue to foster relationships. The
path to parity is fought on the local level just
as much as the national level. We don't have a
chance of success on the national level if we don't
first gain it on the local level.
We must be unified. We are a small profession,
and we need all our resources to accomplish our
goals within the medical community and address
the student recruitment crisis that we have. When
we work together, there is nothing we can't do.
I am, first and foremost, the local podiatrist
down the street. I am and will always be, one
of us. I know the struggles we all go through. I
will not forget these things if you put me on the
Board of Trustees.
