Forge has currently built
the Hearth, a 200,000+
square foot custom-designed
facility, dedicated to viral
vector manufacturing
and offering end-to-end
manufacturing services to
accelerate gene therapy
programs from preclinical
stage through clinical, and on
to commercial manufacturing.
Working on the second
stage of the Hearth, 46,296
square feet, from March
2022 until April 2023, was
the architectural firm BHDP,
Columbus, and Stanton
Millworks LLC, an AWI
member firm located in
Cincinnati that fabricated the
architectural woodwork for
the project.

Primary design
considerations were to make
the space impactful, bold,
strong and relate to a prior
stage that was completed in
2020. Within the Hearth the
company wanted to create a
gathering space between labs
and work zones for their teams
to celebrate, collaborate and
have an all-hands meeting.
It wanted to incorporate its
innovative thinking, brand
elements, empathy to the
work it does as well as being
able to grow within the space.
It needed to be a space to be
proud of, could host events
and have a wow factor.
throughout the facility
provide Forge with an
innovative space, and one
that feels branded, " explains
Shannon Ryan, NCDIQ, lead
designer. " As you move
through stage one you come
into the heart of the space.
We incorporated a two-story
fireplace with a beautiful
plinth seating surround for
team members to meet and
collaborate and enjoy the
warmth of the space and
the flames from the fire.
The seating has removeable
cushions for comfort as well
as power throughout for the
individuals to plug in and
work if needed. "
This space is accented
with a bold wall that
incorporates wood laminate
panels, light boxes and
accent materials as you move
up the connecting staircase.
These elements create a
wow factor, and the angles
and light boxes provide
energy and signify moving
forward. Above this space is
a beautiful laminate ceiling
to help tie in the plinth,
and impressive wall-scape
to warm up the ceiling as it
spans the first floor and the
second-floor space.
" After completion of the
project, we have witnessed
this space being used as
a town hall as planned
as well as an energetic
space for team members to
collaborate. The plinth space
has been filled with people
working, chatting, and eating
lunch - it's truly a wow space
and a place to gather, " Ryan
adds.
