NEWH Honors Scholarship Recipients
During the NEWH Leadership Conference
During the NEWH Leadership Conference in February NEWH, Inc. presented three scholarships: the
second biannual NEWH Leadership $10,000 scholarship to Maggie (Yanjun) Cai, Conrad N. Hilton College,
University of Houston; the $7,500 NEWH BrandED in the name of IHG scholarship to Taya Miller, hospitality
management major from University of Central Florida; and the $7,500 NEWH BrandED in the name of
Marriott scholarship to Ajayi Oliver, hospitality business management major from Monroe College. "NEWH
is so pleased to add the BrandED scholarships to our international scholarship program," says Trisha
Poole, NEWH past president and parliamentarian. "With the support of major brands like Marriott, IHG, and
Hilton-and the educational programs they will be launching at the chapter level-we anticipate raising significant funds in 2019." BrandED
scholarships are awarded to deserving students with exceptional backgrounds and impressive academics pursuing careers in hospitality
management or interior design, and two more will be awarded at the 2019 Lodging Conference in Arizona in September.

Maggie Cai
Conrad N. Hilton College, University of Houston
Hotel and Restaurant Management
Born and raised in China, Maggie Cai moved to the U.S. seven years ago, and completed both the undergraduate
and graduate program in hospitality management at Conrad N. Hilton College. She believes hospitality is a
creative and people-oriented industry that opens a door to the world, and her dream job is to be a project
manager for new hotel development. With a passion to explore and experience new things-both personally and
professionally-Cai seeks to work internationally with a hotel chain. She also aims to help pay her experiences
forward within the hospitality industry, just as NEWH helps students.
NEWH BrandED in the name of IHG $7,500 scholarship
Taya Miller
University of Central Florida
Hospitality Management
All of Taya Miller's work experience has been in the hospitality industry-from serving at
a restaurant to working as an ambassador representing a marine biology program. She
made the leap to move away from home to attend University of Central Florida and has
joined clubs pertaining to her major, attended conferences and workshops, and had the
opportunity to network with professionals in the industry thanks to her NEWH scholarship.
Miller aspires to complete her master's degree in sales and marketing, and eventually to
work in the theme park industry to develop innovative new ways to appeal to guests and
create better guest experiences.
NEWH BrandED in the name of Marriott $7,500 scholarship
Ajayi Oliver
Monroe College
Hospitality Business Management
Having grown up in the Bahamas, Ajayi Oliver's passion for the hospitality industry
started with his experience serving at a restaurant and working at the front desk of a
hotel. Always fascinated by the restaurant industry, Oliver aspires to own a restaurant
of his own providing guests an exceptional experience in a soothing and friendly
environment. After graduation this year, Oliver also intends to start a youth mentorship
program. Because of his own hardships, he knows that everyone needs someone to
help them along in their journey to success and intends to empower others as he
climbs the ladder himself.
