W HE N YO U PASS TH E RO A D TES T For the first six months after you pass the road test you are on “New Driver Probation”. This means that if you are found guilty of committing any two moving violations during this six month period your license will be suspended for 60 days. It will also be suspended for 60 days if you are found guilty of committing a single, more serious violation during the probation period, including speeding, tailgating, unauthorized racing, or reckless driving. Did you know…. • Even something you may consider a “minor” violation (going only 5 miles over the posted speed limit, for example) can result in suspension of driving privileges during “New Driver Probation.” Listed in the box on the following page are traffic violations and the point value they carry. When you are found guilty of a traffic violation the points are added to your record using the date the violation occurred. If your violation points in any 18-month period add up to 11 or more, your license may be revoked or suspended following a hearing. Teen Driver Resource Guide • www.dmv.ny.gov | 14
