disability following stroke.53-55 An international collaboration
between researchers, the ESO, and the Angels
Initiative resulted in successful implementation of the
FeSS protocols within 64 hospitals in 17 European countries,
including low-middle and upper-middle-income
countries. The proportion of patients treated according
to the FeSS protocols increased significantly by 33%
(adjusted difference in proportion),56 which is expected to
have had an impact on reducing death and disability after
stroke. Further investment will be required along every
step of the patient pathway to optimize outcomes.
