recently achieved milk protein
concentrate production at its
latest expansion in Visalia, Calif.
According to the company,
the milk protein concentrate
market is expanding in the areas
of sports nutrition, for sustained
release and functional foods,
for protein fortification. Major
growth categories include readyto-drink nutritional beverages,
Greek yogurt, sports nutrition
powders, processed cheeses and
chocolates and candy.
“With the growing demand
of milk proteins and micellar
casein, we have dedicated our
Visalia, Calif., facility to milk
proteins concentrate and isolate
production,” said Suvash Kafley,
director of R.&D. “We will also be
making native micellar caseins
and low-grit micellar caseins,
as well as casinate replacers
for creamer applications. The
plant can produce high quality
liquid or powder milk protein
concentrates and isolates in less
than 24 hours, allowing us to
provide an estimated 1 million
lbs each month, of milk protein
concentrates and milk protein
isolates to the marketplace, in
order to meet current demand.”

Egg board elects 2013-2014 chairman

At its March board meeting,
Park Ridge, Ill.-based
American Egg Board (A.E.B.)
elected Roger Deffner, vicepresident at National Food
Corp., Everett, Wash., its
chairman for 2013-2014. Most
recently Mr. Deffner was on the
executive committee. He has
been a member of the board
since 2008.
Others elected to the
executive committee included:
