a challenge. 6DOPRQHOOD is a commensal organism in the
gastrointestinal tract, and the birds themselves can be latent
carriers, shedding the disease when they are stressed. That's
why a 6DOPRQHOOD vaccination program that includes both
live and inactivated vaccines can be effective in reducing
6DOPRQHOOD Enteritidis (SE) infections of laying hens and
broilers to help protect the food chain.

inactivated 6DOPRQHOOD vaccine, you can provide long-term

LIVE VACCINES
In a controlled study,2 AviPro® Megan® Vac 1 research has
VKRZQVLJQL¿FDQWUHGXFWLRQVRI6Typhimurium (ST), 6
Heidelberg (SH) and SE infections in chickens. One-day-old
leghorn chicks were vaccinated with AviPro Megan Vac 1,
revaccinated through drinking water at two weeks of age and
then challenged with ST, SE and SH wild-type strains at six
weeks of age.

theimportant serogroups B and D (SE, ST and SH), AviPro

INACTIVATED VACCINES
In a controlled study,4 AviPro 109 SE4, an inactivated
6 Enteritidis bacterin vaccine, effectively reduced 6DOPRQHOOD
infections in laying hens. Pullet hens were vaccinated at
12 and 16 weeks of age and then challenged with wild-type
infections of 6 Enteritidis phage-type 4, 6 Typhimurium
and 6 Heidelberg.
Post-challenge, birds treated with AviPro 109 SE4 showed
VLJQL¿FDQWO\UHGXFHG6DOPRQHOOD colonization in internal
organs, including liver and spleen and the ovaries and
oviducts, as compared to non-vaccinated hens.

"When these vaccination methods are used, they parallel
the natural infection path of 6DOPRQHOOD," says Steinlage.
"This triggers the local, humoral and cell-mediated immune
responses that are unique to live 6DOPRQHOOD vaccines, which
means infections and shedding are reduced when birds
HQFRXQWHUD¿HOGLQIHFWLRQRIZLOGW\SH6DOPRQHOOD."
Mitigating risk from egg to end-consumer starts by prioritizing
bird health and food chain safety with a consistent,
