TECHNOLOGY TO THE RESCUE
What I love about this? Butchers are the pharmacists
of the perimeter. Shoppers love and trust the advice
of their meat department and inspiration like this can
bring a whole host of new meals and meats to the dinner
table. Between the Instant Pot, air fryer and sous vide,
American kitchens today look quite a bit different than
they did just ten years ago.
It took me a while to jump on the air fryer bandwagon. I like empty kitchen counters and the first year

after receiving one it camped out in the
laundry room, collecting dust. Then one
day I decided to make sausages in it and I've
been sold ever since. Making a perfect steak
has always felt like an art to me, with varying
success using the grill or oven. Using an air
fryer almost feels like cheating now.
Consumers marvel over the Instant
Pot's ability to cook a solidly frozen roast in
30 minutes and sous vide lovers call it anxiety-free, nutrient-packed cooking. I can't tell
you the last time I heard people exchange recipes
on something to make on the stove, but last week alone
I was educated about " boiling " an egg in the air fryer,
making pulled pork in my non-existent Instant Pot and
how sous vide is just the perfect solution when having a
get-together.
Whatever your weapon of choice, reality is these
kitchen appliances have made big inroads with consumers, particularly younger ones. And that means these
contraptions should be the meat industry's best friends.
They all address speed, convenience and health - three
big trends in today's meal preparation.
Meat has the opportunity to be involved with acquiring new cooking routines and go-to favorites from the
ground up. And while after ten months of cooking way
more than we ever did before, go-to favorites still find
their way in the meal lineup. Help your customers
build their new routines and be rewarded with life-long
purchases.
