NewsBeat Guam Reef Nears Completion of $12M Renovation The Guam Reef Hotel recently reopened its lobby and entrance area following the completion of Phase I of its $12 million renovation, with the second phase of the project set for completion in February. “This is only the beginning; we still have more facilities to build and upgrade,” Guam Reef General Manager Yasuhiro Kotera said during the softopening ceremony in December. The second phase of the project involves the makeover of guest rooms as well as the construction of a wedding chapel and pool bars. Guam Reef is slated to hold a grand opening ceremony afterward. The renovation project was the first major project undertaken by HIS Co. Ltd of Japan since it acquired the 18-story, 453-room hotel in April. Ken Corp. is in charge of the renovation and the architectural and interior design was created by RIM Architects and Japan’s Irea Architects. The Ritz-Carlton Residences Coming to Waikiki PACREP LLC is developing The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Waikiki Rendering of the luxury condominium tower The Residences. with condominiums ranging from 400 square feet to more than 3,000 square feet. It will be the first luxury condominium project to be built in Waikiki since 2009. The Residences, to be managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, LLC, will be located at the gateway to Waikiki Beach adjacent to Luxury Row at 2100 Kalakaua Ave., which includes such retailers as Tiffany & Co., Chanel, Yves St Laurent and Gucci. “We are thrilled to be bringing the world’s best hotel and residences brand to Waikiki,” says Jason Grosfeld, who manages PACREP LLC, a special purpose entity formed to develop The Residences. “The Residences will further secure www.buildingindustryhawaii.com | 55 Waikiki’s position as a world-class destination providing full- and parttime residents, as well as visitors, with all the legendary services and amenities they have come to expect of The Ritz-Carlton brand.” The high-rise was designed by New York-based Guerin Glass Architects. The real estate will be marketed by S&P Real Estate Corporation. Construction is expected to begin in late 2013 with completion set for early 2016. Sales activities are expected to get under way early this year. Amenities will include resort pools, a spa, a fitness center, owners’ lounge and storage, café and restaurant, as well as a food market. http://www.buildingindustryhawaii.com
