Navigation Systems Line Maintenance & Testing

Navigation Systems Line Maintenance & Testing, May 17-18 This is a course (aircraft line maintenance) in the theory, operation, testing and troubleshooting of common aircraft navigation systems, including VOR navigation systems, instrument landing systems and global positioning systems. The student will receive training on the setup and use of the Aeroflex IFR 4000 associated with the testing of aircraft navigation systems. The course is perfect for those who have completed AEA’s Basic Wiring and Avionics Installation Course, or for those who want to enhance their line maintenance knowledge and understanding of navigation systems testing. Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the following:
Avionics equipment certification and avionics maintenance and procedures. • Principles and levels of aircraft navigation. • VFR and IFR certification processes for aircraft avionics systems. • Various aircraft navigation system designs, configurations and system integration. • Theory and operating principles of VOR navigation systems. • Theory and operating principles of instrument landing systems, including localizer, glideslope and marker beacon. • Theory and operating principles of global positioning systems. • Required aircraft navigation system functional test procedures, including a working knowledge and operational use of various common ramp test equipment and power measurement devices. • Operate and test VOR/LOC, glideslope, marker beacon, distance measurement equipment, global positioning systems, and air traffic control radar beacon systems using manufacturers’ instructions and using common ramp test equipment. day seminar employs in-depth theory and hands-on lab exercises to immerse the seminar attendee in the best practices used to plan, manage and install a general aviation avionics panel. The course is designed to provide the student with basic skills and knowledge to design, develop, plan and perform the mechanical and electrical installation of a typical Garmin avionics suite. The hands-on installation lab includes: Garmin GNS 530, GMA 340, MD200-206CDI and Sandel SN3500. The course is FAA-accepted for 26 hours toward IA renewal training and is taught by Mickey Shriver of Avionics Training Solutions. Shriver is a licensed A&P and pilot. He also holds an FCC GROL and NCATT AET certification with endorsements. Shriver has been an instructor and the avionics program coordinator for Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, for the past nine years. A former U.S. Air Force nav/comm system specialist, Shriver also has owned and operated an FAA Part 145 certified repair station. Shriver founded Avionics Training Solutions to meet the growing demand for customized avionics industry training.
