o Janet Johl prefaces her first book, The Fascinating
Story of Dolls (H.L. Lindquist Publications, 1941) in
which this pioneer historian not only chronicles some
of her over five-hundred museum-quality dolls, but also provides
pictures and detailed provenances of doll collections from all
over the country. Janet Johl has been credited with being one of
the first major doll historians, a distinction she earned by not only
providing details of all kinds of dolls, but also by referencing
their historical and cultural contexts worldwide.
