Tasty Baking Co. announced that Charles P. Pizzi has been named president and chief executive officer of the company, effective Oct. 7.

Group, Inc. announced it will close company-operated dough manufacturing facilities in Eatontown, N.J., and San Fernando, Calif., and consolidate operations into two other plants. In expanding an existing agreement, Flowers Bakeries has begun distributing Tasty Baking Co. snack cakes on 300 additional direct-storedelivery routes in Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and southern Ohio.

An agricultural consulting organization has recommended that the four national wheat organizations in the United States establish a single, unified group that would be responsible for both promotion and policy functions. The final summary of U.S. flour production for 2001 shows a reduction of 6,629,000 cwts from the preliminary estimate. As a result, production for 2001 was down 16,749,000 cwts, or 4%, from 2000, the largest year-to-year reduction in more than 50 years. Nestle S.A. will acquire the assets of Chef America, Inc., Englewood, Colo., the leading U.S. manufacturer of frozen hand-held food products under the Hot Pockets, Lean Pockets and Croissant Pockets brand names, for $2.6 billion in cash. The boards of directors of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. and Campbell Taggart, Inc. have approved an agreement in principle under which Campbell Taggart will be merged with an AnheuserBusch subsidiary, the companies announced Aug. 9.
