Great Places to Visit
Great Places to Live
LINCOLN, KS (COUNTY SEAT)
At the intersection of Kansas Highways
14 and 18 and just east of the geographical
center of Lincoln County is the City of Lincoln
Center.
Lincoln's business district
is spread
partially along both major highways, but
primarily along Lincoln Avenue, where
many of the city's original native limestone
buildings can be found, including the
often-photographed Lincoln County Courthouse,
and the Post Rock Scout Museum and
Drug Store Museum.
Lincoln's downtown business district and
the Lincoln City Park were recently added to
the Register of Historic Kansas Places, and the
National Register of Historic Places.
Some of Lincoln's most well-known
attractions include a clothing boutique, a
stone-baked pizzeria, a first-run movie theatre,
an art center, and a disc golf course in the
Lincoln City Park. Some of the hidden gems include
the Kyne House and Marshall-Yohe house
museums, the Lincoln Carnegie Library, a
volunteer-run community garden, and the Stop
and Shop thrift store.
Lincoln schools are often honored by the
State of Kansas for Excellence in Education and
the Lincoln Leopards are competitive with
other schools of similar size. With a population
of approximately 1200, a full service grocery
store, a City pool and active Recreation department,
Lincoln offers many of the conveniences
of bigger cities, but with the feel of a traditional
rural American small town.
SYLVAN GROVE, KS
The second largest city, located at the
western edge of Lincoln County, Sylvan Grove
is only a few miles from Wilson Lake - some
of the top boating, swimming, fishing, and
camping in Kansas.
Sylvan Grove is home to the Lincoln
County Fairgrounds, an indoor horseshoe
pitching facility, a beautiful city park, a
recently renovated library, a historical
museum, the historic Union Pacific Depot,
and the popular Fly Boy Brewery & Eats
aviation-themed restaurant.
In a city where everyone is your neighbor,
Sylvan Grove celebrates with the annual
Community Day the first weekend of
June, featuring good old-fashioned fun
with events ranging from turtle and frog
races to homemade ice cream and entertainment.
With a population of approximately
300, Sylvan Grove is home to the
Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs and is proud to
have one of the best small schools in the state.
BARNARD, KS
Barnard is located near the northern
boundary of Lincoln County, about 10 miles
north and five miles east of Lincoln.
Community pride is abundant in Barnard,
people come from near and far to attend
community events. The Barnard Lions' Club
is active, providing scholarships through
fundraising activities. Barnard also has new
playground equipment at the City Park.
Nancy's Fancy's is the local cafe, open
with weekly specials on Wednesday nights
and Saturday mornings. Barnard's students
attend USD 298 Lincoln schools.
