One kitchen provides ample
space and function for
three vacationing families
THREE BUSTLING FAMILIES REGULARLY CONVENE at this expansive
vacation mountain home near Lake Tahoe. At the center of the estate is a
365-sq.-ft. kitchen where all members can gather and spend quality time
together cooking and entertaining.
"The kitchen was designed for all families to enjoy, from the grandparents
to the grandkids," said Jules Wilson, principal of San Diego-based Jules
Wilson Design Studio."Having worked alongside the client, who also heads
the company that built the home, we were able to design the kitchen in a way
that worked seamlessly with the rest of the house."
MUST-HAVES
The client's main goal was an open, spacious kitchen with ample seating for
entertaining and lots of counter space for prepping and serving.
"We incorporated open shelving with a black iron finish and frosted glass,
as well as window pane glass in the built-in upper cabinetry to make it feel
more open and break up the wood panels,"said Wilson, who used AutoCAD
software to design this kitchen."The client also wanted the space to feel open
to the beautiful surroundings of the Lake Tahoe mountains, so we designed
the wall-to-wall sliding glass doors to invite the outdoors inside."
The family loves the look and feel of the great outdoors, so the design team
incorporated the following elements to draw from that inspiration:
