Chapter 2-6 Online Service Center Registration Cancellation continued Transaction Changes Most customers are eligible to use the Cancel My Registration transaction through the online branch. It does not matter if the customer no longer has the plates. If the customer does have one or both of the plates, he/she will be instructed to recycle or destroy them. Once the transaction is completed, the customer can download a Registration Cancellation Receipt. A registration SHOULD NOT be canceled online in the following two cases: * If the vehicle has two owners, the registration should be canceled in an RMV branch * If the customer is canceling somebody else's registration, the registration should be canceled in an RMV branch RMV Branch Office To cancel a registration at an RMV branch, a vehicle owner must provide his/her driver's license or other proof of identity. If there are two vehicle owners, or if the customer is canceling somebody else's registration, the customer must also complete and sign an Affidavit for Cancellation of Registration. The RMV no longer needs to collect the customer's plates upon cancellation. A Registration Cancellation Receipt will print and the customer will be instructed to recycle or destroy the plates, if he/she has them. NOTE: If the customer would still prefer to turn in the plates, they will still be accepted. Branches with plate return kiosks will also continue to allow customers to use them until further notice. 2:63
