Expected graduation date: May 2010 Photo by Morgan Eddington, www.morganeddington.com I’M SURE EVERYONE at one time or another has heard the phrase, “it’s rough out there.” Now more than ever, this phrase is apropos in our industry. To state the obvious, it has been increasingly difficult in these times to secure a job opportunity, especially for recent graduates. And now for the good news…An organization that has shown unstinting generosity and continuing commitment to its members is working to create a living database of exceptional potential employees by seeking out and featuring freshly graduated talents. Now, in addition to offering scholarships to students looking to complete their education, NEWH is further assisting these students in taking their first step toward a career in the industry by creating a resource for companies who are looking for talented new associates. I, like the many members, companies, and associations that look to NEWH as a valuable hospitality resource, can’t be thankful enough to be a part of a family that dedicates so much time and effort looking out for each other in this industry. Here’s a glimpse of the talented individuals that look forward to becoming active collaborators within this organization and industry: Jackie Livelli (pictured) Hometown: Melbourne, Florida Education: Savannah College of Art and Design. Savannah, Georgia Degree: BFA Interior Design, Magna Cum Laude, May 2009 NEWH: Icon of Industry Scholarship Winner 2008 Brief Bit: A perpetual optimist, Jackie looks to pursue a career in design with an eye on the triple bottom line; making economic, social, and environmental responsibility a standard. With an equal passion for historical significance, she hopes to venture into the realm of adaptive reuse. Though the East Coast will always feel like home to her, Jackie is eager to experience various cultures around the world with this exciting adventure we know as the hospitality industry. Contact: jackielivelli@gmail.com Erin Rinehardt Hometown: Allen, Texas Education: The Art Institute of Dallas Degree: BFA Interior Design, March 2009 NEWH: Dallas Chapter Brief Bit: Erin worked full-time during the last two years of her education primarily in the hospitality industry for an architectural firm. Having worked on hotels and a major casino renovation and addition, she is very interested in remaining in the industry in Dallas. She will be pursuing a master’s degree in the next year but has not decided on a school yet. She is also on IIDA’s Dallas City Center Council for 2009-2010 as the current PR Chair and Historian.
