Institute for Medical Research (University of Tasmania).
The Steering Committee is responsible for the management
of the trial including design, conduct, analysis, and publication.
Ethics approvals have been provided by relevant jurisdictions
(Tasmania (approval no. H0023615), New Zealand
(grant no. 20/CEN/280), Monash (grant no. 28076), and
Adelaide (grant no. 23615/MYIP14916) (Supplementary
Materials 2)). Results will be disseminated through publications
with authors meeting International Committee of
Medical Journal Editors guidelines.
Discussion
PERKS-International will provide evidence of the efficacy
of the Stroke Riskometer mobile phone app to modify risk
factors for stroke. In designing the study, we have been
mindful of the need to replicate how The App would be
used in the real world, including minimal input from study
staff and electronic data collection. If this simple, affordable,
and widely available technology improves stroke risk
factors, it could potentially translate into a 4% reduction in
stroke.31 This trial will fill a critical gap contributing to the
primary prevention of stroke.
